Offshore Oil & Gas
Calypso performs assessments of jack-up rigs in compliance with:
- ISO 19905-1:2023
- IMO MODU code
- SNAME 5-5
- DNV RP-C104 (2022)
- Class requirements (DNV, ABS, BV)
- Joint Rig Committee
- Local regulations (PSA, BSEE, HSE)
Services include any assessment required for a jack-up to perform planned operations at any specific site. Our assessment reports stand out through readability and clarity. Each report is directly suitable for use on-board and on-shore as well as for third party review and verification. A dedicated Captain’s summary provides a single page, tabulated and illustrated overview of any report.
A Site-Specific Assessment (SSA) is performed together with a Leg Penetration Analysis (LPA). Installation guidance is provided as well as constraints of elevated operation. The SSA optimizes operational capabilities of the rig, being maximized hook load, maximized operating conditions, maximized operational season, minimized air gap, etc.
Rig intake
Our reports, such as Site-Specific Assessments (SSAs), are intended to be used on-board. Tabulated results, wording and conventions are suitably chosen to reflect industry standards and a rig’s Marine Operations Manual (MOM). Through a rig intake, which is optional, deliverables are customized to fit seamlessly with a particular rig.
An intake typically includes two (online) meetings with both the on-board crew and the engineering team.
An intake typically addresses the following items and anything else that may come up:
- Stability program and loading conditions.
- Definitions of eccentricity and elevated weight.
- Hook loads during defined operations
- Allowable motions during operations
- Procedures in-place for mitigating punch-through risk, scouring and leg-extraction risks
- Preloading procedures
SSAs and other assessments performed after the intake will seamlessly integrate with on-board operations and may to some extent take the place of method statements and related procedures.
Rig conversion
Jack-ups may be converted to support other operations than originally intended. Calypso supports enhancements and full conversion, such as from mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU) to mobile or fixed offshore production unit (MOPU). The jack-up may have to be re-classified and structural analysis of (part of) the hull may be required. The historical fatigue usage as well as projected fatigue life are typically assessed.
Tender support
A technically well-founded tender proposal helps securing projects and ensures that expectations are managed and aligned.
We support rig owners in writing tender proposals and we deliver technical content, including uptime percentage estimates and weather limitations for planned operations. Technical tender support helps rig owners optimize fleet usage and efficiency.
We support oil and gas field operators in writing tender documents including RFQs and reviewing received tender proposals. We perform third-party checks on received technical documents including SSAs and LPAs.
