Offshore Wind
Calypso performs assessments of Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV) jack-ups in compliance with:
- ISO 19905-1:2023
- SNAME T&R Bulletin 5-07 (2024)
- DNV RP-C104 (2022)
- Class requirements (DNV, ABS, BV)
- RenewableUK Guidelines (2013)
Services include any assessment required for a jack-up to perform planned operations at any specific site. Our reports stand out through readability and clarity. Each report is directly suitable for use on-board, use by the engineering team and the commercial team, as well as for third party review and verification. A dedicated Captain’s summary provides a single page, tabulated and illustrated overview of any report.
A Site-Specific Assessment (SSA) may be performed for a single location, such as an Offshore Sub Station (OSS). An SSA may also address many locations, such as Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs).
A Leg Penetration Analysis (LPA) is performed for each individual WTG location. The LPA report is a three-page overview, with all relevant data tabulated and graphically presented, ready for use on-board.
An SSA may address all locations or a group of locations within an Offshore Wind Farm (OWF). Grouping of locations, i.e. assigning locations to a specific SSA, is performed based upon geotechnical insights as well as other location-specific attributes such as water depth, lift plan and loading condition.
WTIV intake
Our reports, such as Site-Specific Assessments (SSAs), are intended to be used on-board. Tabulated results, wording and conventions are suitably chosen to reflect industry standards and a rig’s Marine Operations Manual (MOM). Through a WTIV intake, which is optional, deliverables are customized to fit seamlessly with a particular jack-up.
An intake typically includes two (online) meetings with both the on-board crew and the engineering team.
An intake typically addresses the following items and anything else that may come up:
- Stability program and loading conditions
- Definitions of eccentricity and elevated weight
- Crane operations, definitions and limitations
- Allowable motions during operations
- Procedures in-place for mitigating punch-through risk, scouring, leg-extraction risks
- Pre-driving procedures
SSAs and other assessments performed after the intake will seamlessly integrate with on-board operations and may to some extent take the place of method statements and related procedures.
Operational planning and optimization
Operations can be optimized to the extent of knowledge available regarding the operation. Time can be saved when an assessment is dedicated to a specific operation.
Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) are installed in strings, the order of which is typically strictly dictated by the developer. Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV) operations are performed in cycles, starting with components of three to six WTGs on board and ending with zero, after all locations have been visited. The loading condition of the vessel is more challenging for elevated operations initially than at the end of the cycle. Calypso supports jack-up operators with cycle-planning, to enable optimized usage of the WTIV and minimized down-time.
Calypso provides hands-on project support, with the ability to create and revise SSAs rapidly, addressing any issues that may arise during project execution and ensuring minimized down-time.
Tender support
A technically well-founded tender proposal helps securing projects and ensures that expectations are managed and aligned.
We support contractors in writing tender proposals and we deliver technical content, including uptime percentage estimates and weather limitations for planned operations. More and more tender proposals are supported by analysis reports.
Calypso offers Site-Specific Feasibility Assessments for tendering. Such report provides an in-depth assessment of the feasibility of planned operations, but refrains from further optimization. The objective is to assure rig owners and field developers that a proposed scope of work is feasible.
We support OWF developers in writing tender documents including RFQs and reviewing received tender proposals. We perform third-party checks on received technical documents including SSAs and LPAs.
